At the corner of this big room, there was a little one, who was busy playing with papers and dint notice me stepping towards him. I slowly whispered 'Hi', there was no response back, as he was still stuck making something out of a paper. Then I put my hand over his shoulder and said 'Hi'. He was surprised to see me. He din't respond back hi, instead gave me the paper and asked 'Could you please make a boat for me?'. I smiled back and said 'Ok, I'll do it for you'. In few seconds the paper boat was all set ready to sail. He took the boat and smiling said 'Thank you'. That was the first smile I saw on his face that day.
It was the first step towards friendship. I offered to help him in creating a paper plane, he was overjoyed and asked me 'You can make a plane too'?. I smiled and said yes. Soon we made a paper plane. And this way we started to make things, have lunch together, play around, hug each other, jump around. I relived my childhood days. The joy, the happiness, the smile he had is something I can never forget. Just lost in my thoughts that, how innocent kids are, they don't need your money or things to make them happy, what they just need is your love and care.
The day was coming to an end and I had to leave. When darkness started to fall outside, he stopped laughing and was not that happy as he was till evening. He knew that, now is the time I'm going to go. I knelt down, hugged him, smilingly said bye. When I got back on my feet to leave, he just held my hand and whispered something, as it was not clear to me. I knelt down again and asked him 'What happened?'. Holding back his tears, looking deep in my eyes, he asked me 'Can you please stay back, I don't have anyone with me?'. I still wish I could reply him yes or I could adopt him forever.
Right guess, he is one of those kids who's parents abandoned him for no mistake of his. I couldn't stop tears falling from my eyes, its difficult to say NO, even more difficult when it's NO to a kid. Hugging him back, I assured him I will comeback as I'm not allowed to stay there. Till I left the room he stood there hoping that, I will stay back. I pray he finds a home where he will have parents and will be loved and cared.
Everyday in newspaper we read that, a baby was found in the garbage bin or on the roadside or near holy places, but has one ever thought and realized how much trauma do these kids go through? They feel its their mistake that they don't have a family, they feel no one loves or cares for them. The ones who gave birth to them, how can you ever think of leaving a part of yours on the roadside or dump it in garbage bin? Don't you even feel the pain? People tell me that, I'm overreacting to such issues, they say the lady might have done that, because she can't face the society. Then tell me one thing, if you being an elder can't face the society, how do you think the little one will face, when they see others having a family, when they see their same age kids enjoying life and being happy. No matter how difficult life is, just hold your little one with you, even if you have to leave people who never stood by you, because there will be lots of hands which will proudly hold and help you grow in your path of life.
Lessons of life can be learned either by ourselves or others teach us and this process goes on till we are alive no matter how old we grow. The little one taught me a lesson for life - To love and care someone without expecting anything in return not even love, is the best feeling. Its not difficult, you just need courage and a soft heart that beats for them.
Share joy and happiness, spread smile on people's face, I know that we all are fighting our battle of life, and it can be lighten only with a touch of love, a kiss of happiness, a tender hand to help, a hug filled with care.
